We Announced Our Biggest Project Yet! 🏴‍☠️

This month, we launched Project One Wave —a bold new collaboration with Neptune’s Pirates UK to tackle ghost gear pollution along Scotland’s west coast.

Over three total days next month, 5 vessels and 30+ volunteers will remove deadly debris from remote beaches and sort it for recycling and upcycling, laying the groundwork for large-scale coastal recovery. With a clear focus on innovation, collaboration, and impact, this project marks the first step toward a Scotland-wide action plan for cleaner, healthier oceans.

Our volunteer crew includes businesses, sustainability innovators, artists, activists, divers, and ocean advocates —all coming together with one goal: to protect our seas. This diverse mix of skills, creativity, and energy means we’re not just cleaning up—we’re building real solutions and inspiring change far beyond the shoreline. Together, this all-star team is proving that when different worlds unite, big waves happen. Read more here.

This Month’s Conversations: Cold Water, Courage, and Recovery 🏊🏻‍♀️

We've enjoyed some more incredible Seashell Spirit conversations this month. We spoke with Sara Barnes, author of The Cold Fix and The Winter of Our Lives, who, after being diagnosed with severe osteoarthritis in both knees and undergoing double knee replacement surgery, turned to wild swimming as part of her recovery journey. What began as a way to rebuild strength and resilience soon became a deeper exploration of nature, storytelling, and healing. Sara shared with us how cold water swimming not only helped her physically but also reignited her creativity and sense of adventure.

Viki Galbraith is another inspiring woman who found solace and strength through wild swimming. After facing her own health challenges with epilepsy, Viki embraced cold water as a vital part of her recovery, finding both physical healing and a renewed connection to the world and community around her.

Both Sara and Viki’s stories are powerful reminders of how nature—and especially the cold—can offer unexpected paths to resilience, recovery, and joy.

We Set Sail With The Pirates! ⛴️

We teamed up with pirates Lu and Craig to chart key islands and coastal areas off Scotland’s wild West Coast, laying the groundwork for The One Wave mission—an ambitious, collaborative ocean and beach clean-up launching next month. We scouted key areas where marine debris has built up—now marked and ready for action. These hotspots will be the focus of concentrated clean-up efforts during next month’s One Wave project, bringing ocean advocates together to restore these beautiful, wild places. We wrapped it all up with a peaceful evening of camping, surrounded by breathtaking scenery that only the west coast can deliver. What a Monday!

We launched Bundles 🐚

We’ve curated Bundle and Save online now to bring you quality accessories, end-of-line favourites, and perfectly imperfect pieces—all at bundle prices that make sustainable shopping even sweeter. It’s a mix of 'last chance to buy' stock with the same great quality and items from our Second Life Collection which saves perfectly functional items from landfill.

Ghost Net 1000 Push at Cairbulg Harbour 🪢

We were back at Cairnbulg Harbour again for another productive day as part of our Ghost Net 1000 campaign—but this time, we had some brilliant company! A big thank you to the East Grampian Coastal Partnership team, Harbour Energy, Peter Reid from Fishing for Litter, and Stuart from Fraserburgh Harbour who invited us to join them on site with a fantastic team of 50+ volunteers ready to get stuck in and help clear the coastline. This afternoon was funded by Harbour Energy and made possible with their workforce!

With their support and use of the Bobcat, we were able to tackle some of the larger, more challenging sections of ghost gear that have been sitting in the area for some time. The combined effort made a real difference, and it’s thanks to days like this that we’re seeing real progress in our mission to protect marine life and reduce harmful debris along our local shores. It was great to watch our great ally Lauren Smith of EGCP in action too, coordinating the clean and ensuring its success.

Even more exciting—this latest effort looks set to push us over the 1-tonne mark for the Ghost Net campaign! We’re so close to hitting that milestone, so stay tuned for a big update soon.
