We Hauled More Fishing Gear for Ghost Net 1000! 🌊

Ghost Net 1000 is back for 2025, and we’ve already hit the ground running with three missions to clear abandoned fishing gear from our shores. This month, we tackled ghost nets in Peterhead , took on a rugged coastal hike from Whinnyfold to Cruden Bay , and hauled debris from a coastal dumpsite in Cairnbulg —each mission uncovering tangled nets and marine waste left behind. Along the way, we documented our efforts on Instagram, sharing the challenges, the wins, and the stunning coastal landscapes that make this work so important. With the first nets of the year hauled and counted, we’re just getting started!
We Met Sam Lloyd, an Artist Inspired By Seashell! 🎨

This month, we’re thrilled to spotlight Sam Lloyd —artist, children’s author, and ocean lover—whose latest piece is inspired by her own Seashell robe. Her latest collection captures the magic of wild swimming while also making a difference. All profits from sales this month will be donated to Crisis UK, helping to fight homelessness. Sam is also the resident artist at Sea Lanes Brighton, an open-water swim hub that’s making waves with its Dip a Day challenge, encouraging swimmers to take the plunge in support of Crisis. We Shared Some Incredible Stories From the Deep 🌊

This month’s Seashell Spirit interviews have been nothing short of inspiring, and we’re incredibly grateful to speak with such passionate ocean advocates. We had the honor of chatting with the Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust , who shared incredible insights from their three decades of research on Scotland’s minke whale population and the vital role of citizen science in marine conservation. We also spoke with Shane Wasik , marine biologist and founder of Basking Shark Scotland, who offers a unique chance to witness these gentle giants in their natural habitat. And finally, we heard the powerful story of Ally Mitchell, an ex-saturation diver whose life-changing experience salvaging a ship carrying 2,000 tonnes of shredded plastic waste led him to create Ocean Plastic Pots, turning ocean pollution into something meaningful. These conversations remind us why we do what we do with the Seashell Spirit Series—our oceans are full of remarkable people making a difference.
We Collaborated with Cicely, again! 🦈

This month, we caught up with Cicely Nagel, a marine biologist based in South Africa who’s dedicated to studying sharks and changing the narrative around these incredible creatures. In this latest video, Cicely helped bust some of the biggest shark myths, separating fear from fact and shedding light on their true role as essential ocean guardians. From debunking the idea that sharks are mindless predators to highlighting their importance in maintaining marine ecosystems, her expertise brought a fresh perspective to the conversation. We’re so excited to connect with passionate scientists like Cicely, helping to spread knowledge and appreciation for sharks instead of fear.
