We hope these updates will not only keep you connected with our progress but also inspire and engage you with the exciting developments happening at Seashell. Here's how our August went!

Interviews with Inspiring Experts in Marine Biology and Outdoor Education 🦈

This month, our Seashell Spirit Stories aimed to educate our audience about the natural world. We spoke with Cicely Nagel, a marine biologist who studies sharks and splits her time between Cyprus and South Africa, and Kate O'Brien from Àban, a remarkable Scottish charity dedicated to promoting outdoor adventure and accessibility for all.

We're thrilled about the Seashell Spirit series and can't wait to share more next month! Stay tuned for exciting interviews, inspiring stories from diverse fields, and incredible collaborations!

Ghost Net Removal at Deceased Minke Whale Site 🐋

Though we can’t be certain of the cause of death of this majestic minke whale, found on the coast locally to us here in the North East of Scotland, the ghost nets littering the shore tell a story we can’t ignore. Our Ghost Net 1000 Campaign this month took us to the harrowing site, a reminder of why we're doing this work. We managed to remove a huge net from the shore. Watch the video here.

Paul Watson Faced Greenlandic Court 🏴‍☠️

Following the hearing in The Nuuk District Court on Aug 15th, a decision was made to hold Paul Watson in custody until at least September 5th, as the Danish government continues to consider extraditing him to Japan.

We stand with Paul Watson, who has spent his entire life advocating and fighting for whales and the ocean. Please email Denmark's Ministry of Justice at jm@jm.dk and urge them to release Paul. A petition can also be signed here. If you are based in Scotland, you can join a demo organised by The Paul Watson Foundation at the Danish consulate in Edinburgh on Sept 2nd 12-2pm.

For those new to the story, on July 21 2024, Captain Paul Watson was arrested by Danish police upon arrival in Nuuk, Greenland, onboard the M/Y John Paul DeJoria. Danish authorities claim that the arrest was made due to an international arrest warrant issued by Japan, related to his anti-whaling campaigns in the Antarctic more than a decade ago.

Beach Clean- Up Stats 🌊

From February 2024, we dedicated ourselves to hosting a monthly beach clean with our community. We're always on the look out for volunteers! Check out our social pages for upcoming dates.

Here's an updated report of the work so far-

Number of Beach Cleans (Feb 24- Aug 24): 7

KG of Beach Trash Collected (not including net and rope weight): approx 250kg

Average Volunteer Count per clean: 10

Please note that our Ghost Net 1000 Campaign doesn't contribute towards the above figures! We don't have the exact weight of the net and rope collected from the ghost net missions yet, but we're certainly edging closer to the 1 Tonne goal - check out the haul so far.

Your Next Add-to-Cart 🧦

You asked, and we listened! This month, we shot two new products, both set to launch in September. The heavyweight T-shirt, pictured above, is made from organic cotton and comes in two fantastic colours. We're also excited to introduce a new range of socks.

Creating these products took time, but our commitment to sustainability meant finding a factory close to home to manufacture our T-shirts. The quality is exceptional, and we hope you love them as much as we do!

And Finally...

The MISSION Robe launched this month and celebrates Captain Paul Watson and the Neptune's Pirates, with 10% of profits donated to the foundation.
