Since May, we've gathered a huge amount of nets and ropes from the Scottish coastline through the Ghost Net 1000 Campaign, inspired by Neptune’s Pirates. Our goal? One full tonne!
Now, it’s time for the final weigh-in, and we want YOU to get involved!
Our partnership with Neptune’s Pirates inspired the Ghost Net 1000 Campaign, building on the incredible efforts of their dive team and the crew aboard the Spectre vessel to remove abandoned fishing gear along the UK’s coastline.
The mission has included planned trips along Scotland’s coastline. Since May, our dedicated team has located and removed nets and ropes from beaches in Aberdeen, Balmedie, Cruden Bay, Stonehaven, Newburgh, Whinnyfold, and the Isle of Lewis.
We've been on a few adventures! Some of the highlights include the June camp-out at Cruden Bay, an overnight mission that involved digging out a giant net and hauling it miles across the sand. In July, we set out to sea on paddle-boards, visiting hard to reach coves, cliffs, and caves below Dunotter Castle in Stonehaven. A mission that reminded us just how important this work is involved removing net from the site of a deceased Minke whale in Newburgh.
