Ocean Paddle Missions, CrossFit Champions and #FREEPAULWATSON: July Recap
We're excited to announce our new monthly recaps, designed to keep you informed about everything we've been up to as a business. Each month, we'll provide a overview of our latest projects, milestones, and behind-the-scenes insights. Whether it's updates on new initiatives, achievements, or glimpses into the daily workings of our team, these recaps will give you an insider's look at our journey. We hope these updates will not only keep you connected with our progress but also inspire and engage you with the exciting developments happening at Seashell. Here's how our July went!
We joined SeaChange in taking eDNA water samples 🪸
Despite leaving the vast expanses of the open ocean after their boat was destroyed, the Sea Change team, composed of six dedicated environmental professionals, continues their scientific journey on land, and now - on paddle boards!
We spent a day with the team as they travelled to our home in the Northeast of Scotland, at approximately the same time as they would have been passing us on their vessel. Beginning with a ghost net hunt, we then headed out on boards to collect water samples, contributing to the collection of eDNA data which will help to map the health and biodiversity of British Coastal Waters. It was incredible to meet the team in person, you can watch more from the day here.
We attended WOTL 2024 for another successful year 🏋🏽
Over the weekend of July 20th, we returned to the shores of Loch Lomond for another unforgettable year of WOD on the Loch. Bringing athletes from across the world together, this event is a 2 day celebration of food, drink and functional fitness, all with the most amazing backdrop and some of the best scenery Scotland has to offer.
It was awesome to see our robes used by athletes, judges and commentators for another year running. Thanks to everyone who came by for a chat!
July's Ghost Net & Beach Clean Missions🦭
This month we celebrated 6 months of Seashell Beach Cleans. Collectively with the small team of volunteers who join us each month, we've cleared over 230kg of trash (mainly micro plastics!) from our local shores. In addition to this, we've removed an incredible amount of ghost net and discarded fishing gear from the ocean through our Ghost Net 1000 campaign. Watch the latest haul and paddle board adventure here!
#FREEPAULWATSON 🏴☠️
We stand with the international community calling for the immediate release of Captain Paul Watson and remain committed to our pledges to Paul's organisation and our charity partner, Neptune’s Pirates.
On July 21 2024, Captain Paul Watson was arrested by Danish police upon arrival in Nuuk, Greenland, onboard the M/Y John Paul DeJoria. Danish authorities claim that the arrest was made due to an international arrest warrant issued by Japan, related to his anti-whaling campaigns in the Antarctic more than a decade ago. Paul Watson has dedicated decades of his life to protecting the oceans and their inhabitants, and now we’re standing up for him.
Please help by signing this petition, join the protests, and get involved on and offline!
Trekathon Champions🥾
Please join us in congratulating some of our regular Saturday dippers in completing the epic Glencoe Trekathon! They covered 26.2 miles through some of the most dramatic landscape that Scotland has to offer, from the heart of Glencoe to the foot of Ben Nevis (in style, may we add).
And Finally...
We launched two brand new products this month, both available for pre-order. The MISSION Robe celebrates Neptune's Pirates, with 10% of profits donated to the foundation. Our handy Seashell Changing Mat is an awesome addition to your adventure kit, and perfect for avoiding sandy feet when changing!
Come and join us!
Join us every Saturday at 10am at the Fittie end of Aberdeen beach for invigorating dips in the sea. The refreshing waters will not only revitalize your body but also uplift your spirits, offering a perfect blend of mental clarity and physical well-being.
